Following cut to clip, it no longer auto-selects the first part (selection follows playhead is on)

I don't know if I've changed a setting somehow, but previously when I made a cut to a clip in the timeline, it would auto-select the first of the resulting 2 clips. Selection follows playhead is on and it will auto-select a clip as it should when the playhead is over it. Included some screenshots below to illustrate what I mean. Thanks in advance.
