Footage is dark with Display color management AND Metal GPU Acceleration on. If I turn off either it looks "normal". If both are check the gamma is crushed. This is premiere 23.3 and mac os 13.4.
Ok I figured out what is causing the issue. I recently generetated my ICC profiles with x-rite's new calibrite profiler.
If I calibrate with Displaycal it looks correct. I'm only seeing this issue in Premiere though. Resolve and everything else that are color managed are working properly. I've linked to the problematic ICC profile.
I have seen some darkening when DCM is enabled. However, it is fairly minor on the laptops that I am using and the color is more accurate. I also find that when I export with the QuickTime compensation LUT, my exports previewed in QuickTime player looks pretty close to what I see in Pr with DCM. It works for me. This is certainly going to be an area where we continue to make improvements in the near future.
Your issue sounds like it might be related to your specific configuration. The fact that you mentioned that it is a new behavior makes me really wonder whats going on. I do not know of any related changes in this area. Are you able to try an older build?
Just realized that turining metal off automatically shuts off display color managment so it's just about DCM. This is a new behavior for me. Was recently fine. When I export the video it doesn't have the crushed gamma (with or without the QT Gamma Compensation LUT). This is just for previewing within premiere. Also isn't effected by using the default mac os color profile or my custom calibration.
I had this shown to me at NAB, showing that on some Mac laptops at least, DCM darkens the image. Which isn't what the other person or I expected. Good question, not sure how to handle this.
