Question

footage suddenly pixelated unless I re-import

I have been working on a project with the same footage for months with no problem. Suddenly, half my videos are jumpy and pixelated. If I un-link and relink media it doesn't help. If I "replace" footage it doesn't help. When I open the clip in the source monitor it is choppy and pixelating. The only fix I have found is to re-import a clip entirely, then I have to manually replace the footage on the timeline with the exact same clip timecode from the newly imported footage. So I am rebuilding the majority of a 2 hour project manually and completely re-importing footage. This is ridiculous! Any ideas why this is happening? Any better fixes? I even re-installed premiere. It happens with various frame rates and .mov and .mp4 there is no pattern to the type of media this happens with. It's random.

Thank you!

    Try resetting the preferences:

FAQ: How to reset preferences in Premiere Pro?

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:

    Reset a workspace

Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.

    1. Do one of the following:
      • Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
      • Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.

    from here:

    https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/workspaces.html

If that doesn’t work, try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site.

Thank you. resetting preferences and workspace didn't work.

I will look into the graphics rollback... but it's been working fine for almost a year on this same project, so I don't think it's anything with the graphics card or computer. I think it's a premiere pro glitch. But I will try anything. Thank you.

Try Step 2h below.  If that doesn't work, try 2i.
