Footage was shot in 2k but Premiere reads in as 3k

I am a beginner and am using Premiere Pro CC 2017.  I ingested footage that was shot in 2k and Premiere read it as 3k.  I couldn't figure our why there was a  choppy delay in playback but managed to merge the video to audio and now want to adjust the format to read the footage in 2k.  Is this possible? Or do I have to start a new project and and go through the manual merging process again with 2k settings?

What specifically makes you think PP is seeing the footage at a higher resolution than it is?

I don't have it in front of me, but the description of the clip indicated that the footage was being read at 3200 by 1742. I think those were the numbers.

Post up a screen shot when you get a chance.
