For Adobe Panel Extensions PC/Windows does it matter "Program Files" vs "Program Files (x86)"

It looks like there are (at least) 2 folders in which Adobe Panel extensions can be installed on PC/Windows:

  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\CEP\extensions\
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\CEP\extensions

Is there a reason to choose one over the other?

Are there any other extension folders to be aware of on PC?

For development purposes (PlayerDebugMode = 1), any of those directories will work.

No human should be choosing an extension install directory; that should be handled by CC Desktop, or the UPIA utility.

Thanks for the link to the UPIA utility.

This question was posted on behalf of our dev team who are revising an installer for Mac and Windows.

Would their installer need to use the UPIA utility?  Where would they install the extensions (for both Mac & Win)

Installers for CEP extensions are not recommended; Adobe recommends you distribute .zxp packages through either CC Desktop or UPIA, both of which perform additional configuration/registration, beyond simply copying files into the /extensions directory.

Also there is per user location:

  • C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CEP\extensions
