Forced to restart iMac every time I quit Premiere Pro

Since upgrading to Creative Cloud, I have had 2 major issues consistently:

1.  I am consistently getting a "Serious error has occurred..." message to which I end up with a copy of a copy of a copy (it will happen several times with every project) before I can even get something done.  I'm working with pretty basic settings, footage, etc... yet the issue happens mostly if Premiere has sat idle for a few hours.

2.  If I do quit out of Premiere, I ALWAYS have to reboot my computer to open Premiere to be able to get back to work. Always freezes while attempting to open.

I'm waisting a LOT of time here.  Anyone else having the same issues?

    Solved (I think).

-Updated my graphic driver (had to contact them to get the correct update).

    -Still wasn't working correctly

Solution:  One thing the last support person accidentally forgot to attempt was to reset the old Preferences for Premiere.  Went into the Library and labeled the current as "old version".

Restarted Premiere.  Render preference corrected itself.

Seem to be buzzing around MUCH better now.  Thanks for your help, Adobe.  Online chat support is a big win in my book!

    Hope that helps!

And JUST when I said all these nice things, I landed on beach ball city again... went from being about to work for 15 minutes before freezing to 20, JUST after I finished chatting with online support.

I just don't know what to say anymore... maybe Resolve is ready for a try...

Updated my graphics driver and everything else.  Still have freeze and "Serious error" kinds of issues when working with filters (mostly).  Please fix this Adobe.  I've done everything I can and I can't buy a new computer!

Answer:  The renderer was set to Cudo/Open CL instead of Metal or software only.  This seems to have done the trick.

    New development...

So I'm able to copy the entire project and create it as a new project.  I exported the project, then, when I went to export it again, I'm back to the same error/problem.

    This is SO FRUSTRATING!!!

Now, while trying to export a different project, the same "a serious error" crap comes up and shuts down.  What the heck has happened?!?!?!

Unfortunately, that made it worse.  As soon as it opens, I get the error and it shuts down and I now have 7 versions of a copy... I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and now, freezes while in the process of opening.  I get as far as seeing my media, then it freezes.

UPdate... the last project working on seems to be currupt and unable to open.  The previous project opens fine.  Now to figure out how to get all that work back without starting over...
