Question

Freezing and crashing

Editing 90 minute feature film and getting a bit desperate due to crashes and 20 second freezes

Playback (ie hitting the space bar) has anything between a 5 and 20 second delay

Premiere would crash regularly some times after only a few key strokes (even after machine re boot)

Saving to a new file name helped for a short while.

Is Premiere not able to edit full length feature films, should I split it into smaller scenes (don't think you

have to using davinci but this film is currently premiere only)

I'm really not fussed as to who is to blame (probably me) but the director, cast and investors are getting

pretty steamed at the moment as I can't deliver.

The export file is 7.15gb (oh and yes I had regular "can't render, unknown error" earlier)

12 video channels (most of them empty)

11 Audio channels (quite a few empty)

It's a big project 96 minutes but not particularly complex

Machine details below

I have gone through most of the google fixes

Emptied media cache

Changed from Mercury to software only (and back)

Rendered regularly

iMac runs fairly cool but has an external fan on it (just in case it helps)

We are adding ambient sounds and sound effects and this problem has only just started over the last few days but we are basically only doing sound the picture edit was done months ago

Does anyone know when the last update was and could this have effected anything.

I've split the project in two

Sounds like a lot of variables are in play here. I sent you a PM to gather more details. Of course we can also keep this forum updated with results, etc.

Also, what is your hard drive setup (how many, what kind, what is on each, and how full)?

Thanks for the reply Peru Bob,

All the movie and project files are on an external Lacie Desktop thunderbolt drive (4tb mains powered 2.28tb free), I've disconnected all the USB drives I was running (other non premiere storage) and closed down (as far as I know) everything running on the machine.

I've not used proxies for the editing over the last 6 months but may have to consider it ... I have another feature to edit as soon as this one is done
