Full App performance dip with zoomed out timeline

Premiere pro 23.6 (and a couple of versions before)

Mac Studio - MacOS13.6 (plus many other variations)

Myself and many of my editors are having Full app performance dips when we zoom out of our timelines from 2-5min to 50min+

We cut using Local Proxies (ProRes) on SSD 10Gb USB-C.

There is no problem cutting short scenes up to about 10min, but as soon as we start assembling large timelines the overperformance of the app slows down to a crawl.

Whats more annoying is it all works fine when we are just working in 3-5 mins sections on a large timeline, but the moment you zoom out the app lags and you have to wait!

And it is the whole app, nothing works, you cant click on menus or anything.

Its rendered the app almost useless for longform projects..

This isn't just one system, it's on multiple macs, multiple versions (from the last 6 months) and multiple projects…

We've tried everything - turned off gpu rendering and timeline extras like waveform and names…to name a few.

Its like the more cuts there are the slower the app!!

was having the same problem here, turning off "show duplicate frame markers" surprisingly solved the issue, as suggested by @Stan Jones . Thanks!!

Have you tried turning off "show duplicate frame markers"?

Did you use the transcription, automatic or otherwise, at any time?

I realize this is a problem with multiple system and multiple, independent projects.

Another update.
because 22.x is now been knocked off the updates we have run tests on 23 versions and so far 23.2 seem to remain stable without the timeline issue.

----UPDATE---

It seems to be an audio issue. we are using syncd Wavs and music/sfx etc and when we delete all the audio it becomes completely smoooth and no problems with the app

---Update Update---

Gone back to 22.6.4 and there are absolutely no problems!!

If i had to hazard a guess....its something to do with the whole Transcribing thing working in the background..even though we have it all turned off i reckon it must be scanning (of something) and when our timelines are getting massive with 10+ layers of audio and 100s or cuts it just falls over!! im not an app maker...but over 20 year of editing and at least 10 on premiere, i can see when something is not right after a big change…and this is seriously not right!!

Hi @matt26677540wgwo,

I saw something similar at MAX. Going back to v.22 is not an ideal solution but glad it serves as a workaround for now. I'll keep looking for a solution for you on this one.  Sorry about this.

Thanks,

Kevin
