Question

GPU not being utilized in Premiere (Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti)

Hi I am constantly experiancing a lagging and freezing premiere. Most often the playback will freeze but I'll be able to save the project and adjust settings, eventually when I try to close premiere is wont shut down with out opening task manager.

I am almost certain it is an issue related to the GPU. I did a big upgrade from a nvidia gtx 750 to nvidia gtx 1050 Ti. but there seems to be absolutely no difference. when I open task manager and can see that premiere is running on my intergrated graphics card and not my 1050. and yes Cuda is my playback renderer.

Thanks in advance

If you're using Premiere 2019 or Premiere 2020 with H.264 codec, it will utilize your internal GPU. Adobe made some changes to how they handle H.264 and HEVC codecs. More info on that here: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/x-productkb/multi/gpu-acceleration-and-hardware-encoding.html

It's also useful to know that Premiere doesn't use the GPU for everything. It's used for GPU-Accelerated effects, scaling, encoding and some other things. Note that encoding varies on different codecs. If you want to export faster, check this article: https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/faq-how-do-i-speed-up-rendering-exporting-or-encoding/td-p/8242070?page=1
