Hi,

I've got a budget set-up:

CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K @ 4.00GHz
GPU: 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti
RAM: 16GB @ 815MHz
MB: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. Z97-PRO

System Drive: 111GB KINGSTON SV300S37A120G (SSD)
Media Drive: 5589GB TOSHIBA HDWE160 (SATA)
Cache Drive: 931GB Western Digital WDC WD10EADS-00L5B1 (SATA)

All running on Windows 10 with latest PPro.

As I work more with 4K+ and higher bitrates, I can feel her struggling... especially with playback.

With limited finances, which hardware should I update first?

many thanks.

No point in upgrading your machine. You need an entirely new pc.

Use Proxies

I would have to agree with Ann, in this case. Although that GTX 650 Ti is slow by today's standards, an upgrade to any of the current GTX 1000 series GPUs at this point will be more expensive than is justified by the performance increase such an upgrade entails.

In other words, a quad-core CPU simply cannot cope with the increased demands of 4k+ footage.

Thanks Ann, it's always seems to be way when upgrading.

Thanks for the tip about 'Proxies' - didn't realise it was possible with PPro.

Do you have any tips/links to an ideal system spec?

Check over on the Hardware forum ...

And note, Safeharbor Computing (user safeharbor11, Jeff Pulera), Puget Systems and ADK have folks that are very knowledgeable and helpful that pop in over on the Hardware forum. Also Bill Gehrke is a resource of much hard data on what gear works real-world in PrPro. So the expertise available over there is very high-end.
