hearing static in headphones when recording voiceover in Premiere Pro

When i record voiceover in premiere pro, I hear myvoice with a slight delay in the headphones. For some reason, recently, the playback in the headphones has ALOT of STATIC... it's incredibly disttracting while recording.

The static does NOT end up in the recording, it's just while I am recording that I can hear it but it just makes it that nearly impossible to focus on giving a good narration performance.

It seems to happen randomly. sometimes there's static, sometimes there's no static, sometimes there's an insane amount of static.

I have the latest install of Premiere Pro on my MacBook Pro. I am using using a Blue Yeti microphone. I have tested with with headphones plugged into the Yeti as well as plugged into the Mac audio port.

I came here for this exact same issue, the static is super loud and distracting while recording, to the point where I can't keep continuing to record the VO, but since it doesn't show up in the recorded track, I can't even take a sample of it to share. I don't have this issue with screenflow, or any other recording software, hoping this reply will bump the post for visibility and someone will be able to help.

PS I'm using a shure mic -> focusrite 2i2 -> M1 mpb from 2020
