Help please on how to recombine clips into valid Multicam sequence (4K clips) to 1080p HD sequence

So I'm venturing into Multicam edit for the first time with only two cameras which I thought would be easy - well, it isn't so far

I've looked at tutorials etc and can create my MultiCAm nested sequence from two 4K 50fps camera sources with a Audio Master track derived from camera 1. Camera 1 was running all the time, Cam 2 was taking footage as required

Now - the bit that goes wrong is because I want a final HD 1080p edit, the 4K clips are too large of course - but when the Nested multicam sequence is dropped into the timeline I needed to open up the Multicam nested sequence to adjust scaling on the 4 K clips as I require.

Mostly it is 50% scaling but on the master free run camera I occasionally want to zoom in slightly and re-position the view. This gives more flexibility on the 'Fixed Cam 1 view'.

The other camera Cam 2 clips are ad hoc and mostly at 50% scaling size.

So I have exploded the Multicam Nested sequence, adjusted scaling  and got that far.

The bit that I am stuck with is how to re-combine these into a valid Multicam sequence once the scaling has been dome manually.

I have only found a way to re-combine them as a normal Nested sequence which is no good as I cannot see the two multicam sources anymore in the preview window. ie Multicam is lost

So question is please - how do I remake a 'valid Multicam nested sequence on the timeline'  once I have opened up the Multicam Nested sequence and scaled the 4 K clips for 1080p HD?.

Hope this is clear

Any help would be really appreciated as I have searched high and low and not found the answer and this is taking so long I am thinking I might have to edit the exploded Multicam scaled sequence manually (not with number key edit like you normally would) . This will take me ages as I have two 50 minute programmes to do.

Thanks for any help here

So the small You Tube video helped confirm the best way to go about this - and helped me get to a point where I could sync all my clips.

At the stage where I have dropped down all clips to one track V2, V1 was the master cam  (I had 16 Cam 2 clips in the first section I edited.  Then deleted empty tracks.  Then dragged the sequence from the Project bin to create the new nested sequence

At that point - my new nested sequence still had 16 tracks of audio showing even though I deleted the audio clips from camera 2 and deleted all empty Video and Audio empty tracks

When I then tried to look at multicam in the preview window it would only show me camera 1 ?.

So why does the new sequence have all these audio tracks left in it?

One point - when I had all the individual clips on the timeline and had dragged them into 2 tracks - I did make some slight changes to Camera 1 brightness and colour saturation - would this affect the ability to combine back into a multisequence

For example - any edit change to a clip in an exploded processed sequence will stop Premiere able to re-combine a true MultiCam sequence?.

That is the only thing I did differently to your workflow ?.

Thank you for the Simplify Sequence tip. I am just about to start Part 2 of my project where I will need that as the second half of my project contains over 20 clips in camera 2 - so very messy to have on the timeline.

To use that function do I just select everything on the timeline and go up to Sequence/Simplify Sequence?.

I'll check You Tube for this function too - in case there is a short tutorial there

Once again I appreciate everyone's input on this - my first try at multicam on Premiere Pro !.

This is a small tutorial on how to use simplify sequence in your case, hope it helps:

I think you should change the way you work to make everything easier for you. This is my workflow:
After synching cameras and creating the 4K multi-cam sequence, create a 4k main sequence, add your 4k mc to the main sequence and edit it as you like. When you finish, open the settings of your main sequence and set it to Full HD, after that select all clips in the timeline, right-click > Set to frame size, this way all your clips will be scaled down to 50%, in the end scale up any shot as needed.
This way you maintain your multi-cam sequence and you can still switch cameras as you like

Kyle's on the right path. So, once you make the mc source sequence, then open that in the timeline. Check the sequence settings, they should be at 1080p, and if not change that. Then select all your 4k clips and 'Set to Frame Size', they'll all go to 50%. And you should be good to go. Do your visual scaling in the main sequence, when you select a 'clip' from the multicam edit, you can scale the 4k clips back to 100% without losing quality.

Thx for your input so far.

I have already created the Multicam Sequence from all the clips in a bin - and the audio is sync'd to Camera 1. The main audio track is taken from Camera 1 and enhanced slightly - so this is the master

I have opened up the sequence on the timeline and can successfully scale the required 4K Clips with 50% (using Set to Frame size)

So now on to the bit that doesn't work for me  .....

If I select all the video clips on the timeline - right click and go 'Multicam' - this does not behave like a true Multicam sequence anymore as if I enable Multicam in the Preview window I can only see one camera

I have not 'flattened' the Multicam sequence at all.

I notice when I do right click 'Multicam' it only allows a tick against Camera 1 or Camera 2.

I think the thing I am missing is how to enable both Camera 1 and 2 - to re-establish a Mutlicam preview monitor so I can select 1 or 2 using the numeric keys to make the switching main view edit from each camera as required. See images attached below

It shows Multicam Enabled but only Cam 1 ticked - I cannot find out how to enable both.

In the other image you only see Cam 1 in the Monitor Preview.

There are about 15 clips in the Nested Sequence hence the stacked Video tracks

Does this explain the issue I have more clearly ?

You ou can only see sow many MC windows at a time. You see where it says "page" toggle through those and my guess is you'll find the other tracks.

every clip you add to a MC gets assigned a separate track. You can consolidate by opening back as a timeline and moving all the tracks from to the camera that was split into multiple takes onto the same video track. With two cameras you should be able to move everything onto two video tracks. Then delete all the unused tracks.

Not really clear.

So you get a multicam clip that is in sync but the scaling is off? Take the original Multicam clip and open as time line. Scale all the clips as needed, maybe as simple as selecting them all, right click and set/scale to frame size. The edit them into a sequence with the proper specs

Thanks but the question I am asking is how to re-enable the synchronised and re-framed clips into a valid multicam sequence so that you can use numeric keys for editing the final output and switching between cam1 and cam2.

I have got as far as you suggested already - it is re-enabling as a valid multicam sequence which does not work once the clips are scaled.

Hope this clarifies the issue.

If you opened your Multicam clip as a sequence (Right-click clip in the bin the select open as a sequence) to make the sizing adjustments then your original clip should still be in the project. Close your timeline and use the original as a clip. Your sizing changes should be reflected in that clip.

If you put your multi-cam clip into a sequence and then "Flattened it", you'll need to start over.
