HIDE PREMIERE PRO no longer works while rendering?

Hey guys, I'm running Premiere Pro CC 2017 using Mac El Capitan. When I start a render, I am no longer able to hide the application . It always pops back up over when I am otherwise doing. This was originally done by going to the left menu > HIDE PREMIERE PRO. This does not work anymore - or should I say, it works for a couple minutes then pops back up.

This is a very strange behavior. Please help .
