How Convert .scc / .srt IMPORTED subs into Open subs?

Hey there,

I have been going nuts trying to figure out how to stylize my IMPORTED subtitles into PP.
Sorry to keep stressing that these are imported subtitles but there is so much info out there how to manually do subtitles in PP and there is also some info on importing a .scc file into PP but I can't for the life of me figure out how to convert either the .scc or the .srt into a format that PP will allow me to modify font, color and most importantly set the BG to transparent.

IF there is a better file type to import please let me know what type it is... I have tried so many (.sub, .stl, .txt, .cap, etc...) all with the similar results (well most don't import at all but when they do I still can't change the font or options on the text styling.

Please advise.

I forgot to add: if the imported stream you have is closed caption (or anything other than Open Captons), you can right click, modify, captions and change to Open Captions. Open Captions cannot be changed to anything else.

Hey Stan!

Thanks for the advice, the right click MODIFY worked but you are right I am not happy with the "quality" of the text now. Anyway to make imported text crisp and sharp?

I am running PP 13.1

My final output will likely be a ProRes master and a DCP in the end. But right now we are just going with editing and these are subtitles for a language that I don't speak and I have .srt files and all I really want is good quality text w/o a background color in a "normal" san serif font (ie Ariel or Helvetica).

So with that said I don't need tit to be Open Captions however I don't like the way the .scc files improt with the right alignment ugly font on a bold black background.

So I am very much open to suggestions!

Oh, I should also mention that we are editing SD (24p) in an HD timeline right now. (this is a legacy project shot on DV)

What version of PR are you using?

What is your final output? Only Open Captions will give you much styling control, and there are limits. Also, the final burned in quality of Open Captions is less than regular (non Caption tool) text.

In the Captions panel, there is a button for Import Settings. If you are importing .srt (for example), you set this to override the srt import so it will come in as Open Captions.
