Question

How do I apply a cross dissolve to a clip that has a mask on it?

I have a clip that has a mask and a cross dissolve.  This cross dissolves also dissolves the mask shape outline making the image black before it fades in. I tried nesting the clip, but that didn't work either. Is there another way to do this?

Thank you!

This is an old post, but for what it's worth, I applied a film dissolve transition to the lower/original clip only. It worked for me.

That is what a cross dissolve does: Dissolve.

what are you trying to achieve?

Post screenshot entire UI showing the timeline, clip selected with mask, effect controls and program monitor.

I want everything that isn't masked to cross-dissolve. Does that make sense?

I understand, that but if I dont know what effect, what mask and how your timeline looks like I cannot give an answer.

But most likely you need to duplicate and superimpose the clip with the mask and cross dissolve the underlying clip.
