How do I get unicode characters into my text boxes in permiere pro?

I am trying to get characters such as ә and ā into a title on premiere pro. I have the unicode codes but it does not render it correctly. I just get a square. I have tried multiple fonts and nothing works. Any help is much appreiciated!

Usually, I open up a new Word processor document, type in the ALT-code there and then copy/paste the result in PPro. Bit cumbersome, but it works.

The font used needs to support those characters.

Have you tried copy/pasting the characters? I believe that should work.
