How do I revert to the old mask tool in the new 2026 update without having to roll back? I really don’t like it I’m sorry to say.

The new method is absolute garbage. I can’t even change the size of an oval mask and keep it relative. It has 4 bezier curves now which mess with the entire shape.

Thinking of moving to Capcut. Every upgrade gets worse with Adobe. 2 months ago my 2nd monitor output stopped working.

Have you even read the online Help on the new masking setup? Doesn’t sound like it ...

They should keep masking in opacity section. Now i need to do more clicks to mask a solid layer…. idiots

You can do that ... as has been shown by staffers several times. It is not obvious but doable. I’m not at the computer right now and dang but I forgot the instructions for that.

    Is it different? Yes.

Is it worse? Not at all.

If you select the Frame option you get the previous manual behavior, if you leave it on Clip you get the new auto behavior.

I’ve been using that for months in the public beta, and while occacially I did need to go manual on a clip, for most clips, I didn’t. And when I went to Frame to go total manual, it worked just like before.

The only way is to downgrade to v25.6.4 but then you won´t be able to open any v26 projects since they won´t open in v25. So the best way is to give it some time and look at YouTube for video that explain how the new masks work.
