Question

How Do I Set "Save As" To Open and Save to the Same Folder Every Time?

When using Save As or Open Project in Premiere, the folder that opens is whichever folder I last exported a video to. However, up until a few weeks or months ago, using Save As or Open Project would always open to the Adobe Premiere projects folder (User/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Pro).

Is there a way to set this folder as the default Save As/Open Project location? Currently, any time I want to Save As/Open Project I have to manually navigate back to that User/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Pro folder, and it’s quite a nuisance.

Once again, I’ve had to go on a rescue mission to find where my most recent project got saved after doing a late night editing project. Adobe, are you going to fix this? Your developers need to control the urge to constantly tinker with things, especially with changes that wreak havoc.

    WHY DID THEY DO THIS???

This is so annoying, and it’s never done this before. It remembers where you exported last and so when you go to “save as” the project, now it tries to save where you exported and not where the project was originally saved and vice versa. Why do this? Why make me navigate to 9000 different directories every time when the old way you didn’t have to do that and it was a lot quicker? Why make this fundamental change no one wanted?

It makes no sense and makes it so much easier to get disorganized. I had to search my entire drive to figure out where it saved a project I had done 5 hours of changes to because I took a break to export another completely unrelated project to another directory. I thought I had lost all that work when all I could find was the older file! Adobe should revert this or at least make it an option to use the old functionality.

I’ve owned or subscribed to Premiere/Creative Suite since 1994. Premiere has always “Saved,” “Save As,” or “Saved A Copy” in the same location as long as I can remember. This frustrating change is not only creating extra steps, but has put my backup and latest files in bizarre places! I have six external drives that I access when working with legacy footage. I had an error with a Premiere project and needed to grab the latest backup. I was on a wild goose chase finding the right file. Whose idea was it to muck up the works so bad on a basic function? Please restore sanity soon.

This seems to be a known issue that will hopefully get addressed in an update. You could try the free Compass utility that might help.

I’m also finding this problem since the last update. I hope they revert back this behaviour because is very inconvenient to have to be changing the selected folder every time. Also dangerous. It happend to me that right after the update I didnt notice this change and I saved new projects in the wrong folder and deleted some important projects, because I usually export video tests in temporary folders and all mixed up. It doesnt make sense.
