How do You Control the Dip to Black Duration?

Hi Everybody, I am trying to fade out the end of my video to black and I've found the dip to black effect controls are not very useful. If you set the duration to 10 seconds it does the whole fade in the first 5 seconds and leaves 5 seconds of completely black screen! What’s the point in setting a 10 second fade out if it happens completely in a matter of 5 seconds. How can you make it slowly fade out across the whole time? At the moment when my video ends for 5 seconds of time it’s just a completely black screen! What’s the point in that? Thanks for your help.

Dip to Black is a double side transition. It is basically not suited as a single side transition.

If you still want to use it: set end to 50% in the effect controls.

Best is just to use the Cross Dissolve.

I agree with Ann's last point.  Use a different transition for beginning and end fades.  I like the Film Dissolve myself.

Thanks, I didn't realise that. I saw a video on YouTube which showed using dip to black to fade in and out the start and end of the video. When I did it it looks a bit rubbish! I'll try cross dissolve and film dissolve instead. Thanks.

Unfortunately not all tutorials on YT provide good info.
