Question

How Do You Organize Short Videos Before Editing in Premiere Pro?

When working with short videos, I find that organizing clips before editing can save a lot of time. Keeping source files, audio, and reference clips organized makes it easier to build a smooth editing workflow in Adobe Premiere Pro.

I am curious how other editors manage videos collected from different sources. Do you organize clips into folders, rename files before importing them, or use labels and bins inside Premiere Pro?

Sometimes I also save short clips for reference or inspiration, so having a clear system for managing media is helpful before starting an editing project.

What is your preferred method for organizing short form video projects and keeping everything easy to find?

Most editors use some amalgamation of storage and bins.

If you have client footage/assets, then typically there is a folder tree for that client or that project for that client on disc. Makes cleaning up afterwards much simpler.

Within Premiere it’s all using bins and smart bins to keep things organized.

I always create separate bins for footage, audio, graphics, timelines, renders, misc, etc, etc when i start a new project. I prefer List View over Icon View in the Program panel as well for a better overview of everything. Icon View can be very cluttery.
