Question

How do you use aegraphic files for captions?

I'm trying to do the karaoke style of captions, and it seems like there is no way to do this in Premiere without duplicating 100+ times and manually typing the captions in for each line

This CANNOT be the actual workflow, surely?? Surely you can create captions that using a .aegraphic files without paying $150 for Captioneer. Someone please tell me I'm just being a noob, because this can be done automatically in free apps.

    Hi, @real_5081:

    You should be able to transcribe the lyrics, make corrections if needed, then generate Captions from the transcription.  Double-check the captions, adjust timing if needed, and then convert the Captions to Graphics.  As Graphics, apply a Style to all of the Graphics.

    To take advantage of what can be done on the After Effects side, export the Captions as an SRT file and use the free After Effects SRT Importer from Digital Anarchy.

    @real_5081,

    The feature request for PR to do this natively has been around for a while. And staff have acknowledged its importance. But yes, this is the current state of things.

    Captioneer is very capable. I tested the trial some time ago. If you’re editing for income, it saves massive time.

    @_nicdean,

    It appeared to me that using your own mogrts is no longer supported for the basic license? That was certainly not necessary - the basic options were all handled. But it is a very nice feature.

    @Stan Jones thanks for the mention! Using your own .mogrts is absolutely supported in all versions of Captioneer. Where did you see it no longer supported?

    Using any custom .mogrts is a core feature that sets it apart, and I have no plans to remove that functionality from the plugin

    @_nicdean,

    Enterprise section of pricing was the only one that listed “use your own .mogrts,” and I wondered. It is a great feature, and I agree it adds major flexibility. Keep up the good work.

    Hi @real_5081, chiming in here as the creator of Captioneer (https://captioneer.com).

    As of May 2026 there’s not built-in way to create captions from .aegraphics in Premiere. I agree with you that this is a surprising flaw for a professional app marketed for social media creators. I noticed this oversight around 2021 and we set off building the plugin.

    There are a few other plugins: Submachine, Firecut, AutoCut, and more.

    I am biased, but Captioneer strikes a balance between fair price/functionality. It also has features that no other plugin has, and is actively being developed and improved. We push updates every month.

    We have a Free Trial so you can test things out and if you run into issues you can email our support or message me directly on all platforms.
