Question

How to change caption format from subtitles to CEA-708?

Hello

I have to upload some videos to Microsoft Stream. I had done the captions in the "subtitles"-format. Now it turns out that I need to do the captions in CEA-708/VTT-file (Sidenote: Adobe, why oh why do I have to convert to VTT somewhere online?). If I don't, the sound and captions won't synch in Stream and the captions are all over the place.

However, I haven't found a way to change the format in Premiere on captions allready done. It's a 30 minuts video in a language not supported by auto anything so the job has been done grinding manually. If there are any ways to fix this either by changing formats directly or by a workaround, I'll be forever grateful if someone could share how.

With the introduction of the new subtitles workflow in Premiere 15, what you're asking is now possible! This was a real pain to do in previous versions, but now switching formats is as simple as:

1) Right-click on the "Subtitle" track at the top of the Timeline

2) Select "Track Settings"

3) Change your settings to CEA-708

Note, this doesn't change anything about which formats support CEA-708 embedding or how you export subtitles, those rules still apply.
