How to change whilte to transparent in a video of something like this (mouse click animation)

I want to be able to drop my mouse click like I have in the attached video onto a timeline of a screen recording  and have it look reasonable.  That is, I don't know what the background of the video will be. Sometimes it may be a browser, other times some other color or pattern.

Is there a way to change all white to transparent to the timeline?

Correct answer Steve Griffiths

You can 'key' out the white background using a key effect. But won't work in your case as the edge of the cursor is also white, so that will disappear too.

You need to create a mouse click effect on a transparent background (with an alpha channel).

Here's one I created a few years back that I use all the time. Created in After Effects. Might be useful to you.

I have no idea what you are trying to achieve.

You cannot just drop a color on the spot.

The only thing you can make so called transparent is the background by setting it to Transparency Grid.

As a temporary workaround, you can use Ultra Key and key out the white but that is more than one mouse click.
