How to crop videos like in Vegas Pro?

Alright, so I am having a few problems with premiere that I have not had in Vegas.  You see in Vegas I can use motion tracking to scale a clip down, then I can use the crop tool on that clip to zoom in on an object in said clip as shown below in these images.

(I scaled this clip down displaying the backgroud of the clip which is the black)

(I used the crop tool to zoom in on a log)

My question is how can I do this in premiere?  I am familiar with scaling as shown in the screenshot below where I replicate the scaling I did in vegas.  But how do I zoom in on the log?

    Use a mask from opacity instead of the Crop Effect.

    If you are also scaling on the timeline, nest the clip first then add mask (or crop effect)

    If I’m understand correctly, you want to apply the Crop effect to the clip. Search for Crop on the Effects panel (I see from your image you already know where it is!). And then drag That to the clip. Crop the sides of the image till you just have the log and then afterwards, use the scale setting!

    I have found the crop and have tested it out, but to be honest it's a huge pain.  For example I can't keep the aspect ratio of the clip when cropping.  As seen in the screenshot, I cannot scale it to 16:9 ratio with ease like I can in vegas. 

    Also if when I crop something in vegas it does not affect the previous scaling.  With your method, I have to change the scaling of the clip yet again.  Which will result in the clip looking quite off if I choose to animate it.  I will provide a video example.

    As you can see from the video, vegas handles what I am trying to do much more easily.

    Premiere Pro isn't Vegas.  It works differently.  You'll have to make accommodations.

    I'm in the same boat switching to DaVinci Resolve.
