Question

How to edit with markers

Hi all:

I got Adobe Premiere Pro from work, last month, which they pay for.
As I am unfamiliar with this, I tried it out, but failed beyond anything, as the logic of this program is ... not there?

Example:
I loaded a song, to edit it.
I placed a marker where I want to begin copying, placed one where I wanted the part to end copying (thus, so that marker 1 = the beginning of the part to be copied, and marker 2 where it had to end the part to copy, copying all in between), but this does totally not work as such.
I got this "brilliant" idea:
Went on youtube to seek help on how to select a part, copy, and then past it.
But, guess guess, nowhere a video on this, instead I found bits and parts, stuff on:
- how to edit the shortcuts: I do not intend to edit any shortcut, knowing myself, I would likely delete the program.
- how to paste bits: a video where a fella with glasses begins, having ALREADY the selected bit ready, not explaining how he did it.
ETC.

I find it a bit sad, that the most logical way, just fails to work:
Marker 1, marker 2, and select what needed to be done with it.
Simple, intuitive, logical, rational, but no go.
I fail to get why, though, it could be that simple, even with video, and for adding text etc.

Now, and please, keep it simple ... I have severe ADHD, so, brain is very fast confused ... :
How do I selet a part from a song, copy it, and part it at where it has to be pasted in, please?

Thank you beforehand:
Annah.

<< for now concentrate to learn how Premiere Pro works>> Absolutely Brilliant!

Premiere is used to edit even feature films and everything below that.. So, learning a bit of how it actually work would go a long way.

For the immediate thing I would simply drop the song into the timeline and edit out the part before and after the bit you want.

Drop in the song, put the time indicator at the beginning of what you want and press Q, move the time indicator to the end of what you want to keep and press W.

With that done, I'd learn what was next... LinkedIn learning has some excellent tutorials via the paid service.

What MyerPj has suggested is technically called "top & tail editing" as you trim the front (top) and end (tail) of the clip.

It's blazing fast as set the CTI/playhead to the place you want the clip to start, hit Q, and it cuts from there to the beginning of that clip, closing any gap to the left of it.

Go to where you want the clip to end, hit W ... and again, it removes from that frame to the end of that clip, and closes any gap to the next clip.

Very, very fast method.

Everyone's mileage always varies ...

Thank you, good sir.

If I understand what you are trying to do, you need to make cuts and then copy, not just add markers.

If that's not it, can you post screenshots or a video explaining what you are trying to do?

Thank you, sir.

But i fail to get, why Premiere does not use the markers as per how I siad afore.
It would make things a whole lot more intuitive and user friendly?

Markers are not cuts ... markers are places to mark for information about the clip.

Cuts are where you cut the clip into sections.

Totally different functionality, actually.

And a ton of things are like that in Non Linear Editors ... which Premiere, Avid, Resolve, and others are. Many things only become logical once you begin to understand the underlying basis.

Like ... you aren't dealing in images, like a stills app (think Photoshop). In video editing on an NLE, you are dealing with streams of images ... from 24 to 100 or more per second ... and the processing design therefore is absolutely from the ground up a different thing. It has to be built to play all those images sequentially with effects added. Several orders of magnitudes more load on the computer than a stills app.

And markers help give context to the stream while you are working on the sequence.

It's that kind of conceptual thing ... and there are many! ... that you need to grasp to really get going "naturally" in an NLE.

Everyone's mileage always varies ...
