How to fix inconsistent chronological order when creating sequence from Project Panel clips?
Hey all,
I’m trying to find a reliable way to lay clips from a bin into a sequence in strict chronological order, and I’m running into inconsistent behavior.
My typical workflow:
• In the Project panel, I switch to List View
• Sort by Creation Date (ascending or descending depending on preference)
• Select all clips in the bin
• Either:
• Right-click → New Sequence from Clip, or
• Drag them into an existing timeline
The issue:
Sometimes this works perfectly, but other times:
• A random clip gets placed at the very beginning or near the start
• Or the entire sequence comes in partially out of order
• Occasionally it even seems reversed
I’ve tried:
• Clicking the first clip vs. last clip before creating the sequence
• Dragging from top vs. bottom of the sorted list
• Using both ascending and descending sort orders
None of this produces consistent results.
What I’m trying to achieve:
A dependable way to take a bin of clips (sorted by Creation Date) and have them land in a sequence in exact chronological order every time, with no manual fixing afterward.
Additional context:
• I often use “New Sequence from Clip” so the first selected clip defines the sequence settings
• I have “Set to Frame Size” enabled in Premiere settings, so mixed orientations (horizontal/vertical) display well. I use widescreen sequences, and vertical clips are automatically resized to find inside them.
Main question:
Is there a known reliable method to ensure clips are laid down in the exact order shown in the Project panel?
Or is this just a limitation/bug in how Premiere handles multi-selection + ordering?
Appreciate any insight, folks.
