Question

How to import mid-side stereo footage shoot with a sony fs7 into premiere pro?

Hello editors!
I do have a problem and need your advice-
We mounted a MSH-10 perl micorphone which records mid / side stereo on our Sony SF7. When Importing, we have as usual with the Sony codex the 4 mono tracks. But for processing the MS stereo, I think that I would have to import the mid and the side track as a stereo file to apply the filter to strech the stereo to the desired level.

Can somebody advise my how to do that?
Thank you for your help.

Best regards
Dan

The easiest way is to right click the file (or files) in the project panel before you put it into a timeline. chose Modify clip, audio channels. Make clip channel format stereo and number of audio clips 2. The media source channel box will now give you the option to select which mono camera channel goes to which stereo.

On your sequence I would keep one audio track for the m/s material. In the audio track mixer add the Channel mixer effect to the m/s track. In the channel mixer setup chose custom setup-edit, in the preset dropdown box at the top you will get a lot of options, one is m/s to stereo conversion. If this does not give you enough flexability the are a number of free vst plug-in converters, Google will help here.
