How to increase volume without losing quality?

Hey, how do I increase audio volume without distortion, earrape, or quality loss? I've tried increasing the audio gain / adjusting gain to (I assume they are the same thing) incrementally, but with each increase comes a quality loss at a peak. When I play an exported video in VLC at 100% volume, the video is loud enough, but the same video when uploaded to youtube sometimes becomes quieter at its 100% volume.

I'm trying to solve this issue, any ideas or solutions?

thanks

It sounds like you will need be applying some compression ... that's where the upper loudness is not 'raised' as much per change in loudness as lower loudness values are. Which makes the softer parts easier to hear without blowing out the louder parts.

And this can be done in Premiere, but well ... as noted above, Audition is a great choice. Easy to send your sequence directly to Audition, and get the work back into Premiere. A deep set of audio tools. Sweet and slick processes to cross-dissolve across cuts ...

Try using Audition for the audio.
