Question

How to make proxies offline?

I need to send a project to some team members but it's taking forever to media manage and I think it's all the proxy files that are slowing down the process. The people I'm sending the project to already have the proxies so I don't need to include them with everything else.

How do I offline the proxies so they don't get copied when I media manage? I don't want to unattach the proxies from the original media, I just want both the original media and the proxies to be offline. How do I do this?

Hello,

You can try to use PlumePack: it's a third party plugin we develop at Autokroma. It's a project consolidation plugin, so like the native "Project Manager", but with less bugs and more features if you take the Premium version (like Trimming without re-encoding: which removes unused frame of your footage to save disk space and keep the exact same quality, metadata, ...). The "Collect & Copy" feature in PlumePack can be used for FREE ! (And by default in this free mode, proxies are NOT included).

More info on PlumePack in this article
Differences between the Project Manager and PlumePack in this article.

Best,

Nicolas from Autokroma

Hey dparsons85,

You can detach proxies by right-clicking on files that have proxies attached > Proxies > Detach Proxies. You can also try temporarily moving or renaming the folder that contains your media. You can also try unchecking the "Include Preview Files" option in Project Manager to reduce the collected project size.

Thanks,

Ishan

I don't want to detach the proxies though. I want to offline them in the same way that I can offline any other file. If I detach the proxies and send the media managed project to the team, they will then have to reattach the proxies - this shouldn't be necessary.
