How to re-create the "Convolution Kernel Find Edges" preset for a glitch transition?

Hello everyone! Im green to premiere pro and I'm making my first video. I found a "youtube shorts" video on how to create a glitch transition that's EXACTLY what im looking for https://youtube.com/shorts/mToikZfwDws?si=-wX_6Tqv84cAJ6Q1

The problem is, is that the "Convolution Kernel Find Edges" preset that is used in the video is no longer included in premiere pro 2025 and I have no way of knowing how to recreate the transition.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

You can get the same look by applying the Find Edges effect followed by the Black & White effect onto your adjustment layer. You can add the Brightness & Contrast effect to boost the contrast of the lines if they don't "pop" enough. Also, if you don't always want the exact same glitch, try checking the "invert" option on the Find Edges effect for an alternate look.

This turned out to be correct! Although its not a 1 to 1 recreation (im attributing that to my skills; I have to tinker around with it more) , its preeety darn close.

Oh and the "invert" funtion is definetly needed to blacken the video.

glad it worked out, or at least is in the direction of what you're looking for.

When I wrote my initial response I wasn't at my computer but I just tried the same thing on my end to see what it actually looked like. I see what you mean by it not being perfectly 1 to 1, as the Find Edges effect has a somewhat "smoother" look than the tutorial. To make it a little more rough/gritty, one thing you can try is also adding the Extract effect. Set the Smoothness to 100, and play around with the Black and White input levels. **Also, if the Extract effect is placed above the Find Edges effect in the Effect Controls panel, you will get different results if than if you drag Extract below Find Edges, so try both and see what you like.**

Unrelated to the tutorial but if you like doing glitch effects/transitions, here's some Premiere effects you can mess around with:

VR Digital Glitch
VR Chromatic Aberations
Extract (even by itself is has a somewhat similar look to the effect you're currently working on)
Color Emboss
Posterize

Try combining two or more of these effects to get a bunch of wild and interesting results, especially for rapid glitch style transitions.
