How to remove Strip in Super 8 footage?

Hi, I recently started using Premiere Pro to edit some Super 8 footage I shot. One of the films had this annoying strip right near the middle of the screen (see photo). Does anyone have any idea how to efficently remove it? I tried pretty much everything (including creating a duplicate of the clip, pasting it on the top layer, and creating a mask. It doesn't look good) but nothing really worked.
