Question

How to save changes I made to a free stock essential graphic in premiere pro

Hello,

Is there a way to save changes that I have made to a free stock essential graphic I got from the essential graphics panel. I added my company name and changed the color of the line animation in one of them, but I use 3-6 of these stock graphics in my videos. There is simply no way that I am not skilled enough or have the time to learn After Effects to create one from scratch. This old brain had a hard enough time learning Premiere Pro, and I can still only do basic editing after two years. That is why I use the free stock templates. It just seems really silly that I can't save the changes that I made so that I can use it for later projects with my company name and the colors that I chose, especially considering I use multiples per video. Making those adjustments everytime is tedious.

I have read that you can copy and paste the graphic from previous projects, but what if I want to share just that graphic with the changes I made with a collaborator? It seems a bit ridiculous to have to send them a huge project file when all they really need is the modified graphic.

One of the free stock graphics that I use was created originally in After Effects. Do I need to find free stock graphics that were made in Premiere Pro to be able to save the modification or is that even a thing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @TheEnder,

Premiere Pro mogrts can be modified only in Premiere Pro. After Effects mogrts can be modified only in After Effects.  There's no way to save the modifications of AE mogrts in Premiere Pro, but it's a good feature request for situations like this.

If you're feeling adventurous, here's a tutorial to change the default values in After Effects. I'm using Premiere Pro & After Effects 24.2.1 for this example.

  1. Go to Adobe Stock, click on your profile icon, and select "License History."
  2. Find the mogrt you want to modify, and download it to your computer.
  3. Open After Effects. Go to File->Open and select the mogrt you just downloaded.
  4. It will ask you where you want to extract the folder structure. Select Extract.
  5. You may get a dialog saying that the file was made in an older version of After Effects. Click OK.
  6. The Essential Graphics panel will already be open and should look familiar to you! Open the groups, change whatever controls you want to be default, then reclose any groups (or leave them open for ease of use if you like)
  7. At the top where it says Name, I recommend changing the mogrt name so you know this is the modified version.

  8. Click "Export Motion Graphics Template..." at the bottom, It'll ask you to save the project. Save.
  9. You'll get this dialog. For Destination, you can send it to the Local Templates Folder for your computer's use, or send it to the Local Drive, or to a library. I recommend selecting "Include Video Preview" and the two Compatability checkboxes. Select OK.
  10.

  11. Check your mogrt in Premiere Pro. If you sent it to the Local Drive, be sure to target that folder in the mogrt browser.
  12. You'll notice that the thumbnail's preview video thu might be different - this is expected. When you download a mogrt from Stock, it includes the marketing video provided by the artist. When you export a mogrt with Include Video Preview, it'll give you a video of the Primary comp.

I hope you take the leap and give it a try.

Cheers,

Theresa

Hi @TheEnder,

I read about your issue. Sorry that you don't think you can recreate the mogrt in After Effects. I will ask one of my colleagues about this. Please allow a little time for a response. @Theresa Rostek - could you take a look at this case?

In the meantime, could you share which template you are referring to? I hope we can help you.

Thanks,
Kevin
