How to select a specific layer among many...

I have a few layers on top of each other. If i click and drag, the biggest layer always drags. I'm not able to click a specific smaller layer and drag. I can select it in the timeline, then move it with the position property. However, i'd like to be able to select multiple sub-layers (those that are within a larger layer) and drag them around together. Can someone tell me what i'm missing here? thanks!

You cannot drag multiple layers at the same time.

Select clip/layer in timeline, go to Effect Controls and highlight the word Motion. Now you will see the wireframe in the Program Monitor and you will be able to drag it around.

The solution i came upon was to start nesting much more. Like, i have nests within nests. that's working out much better. i'm now going to go ask a question about whether too much nesting has adverse effects.... thanks!

Maybe try zooming in to your time-line by tapping the plus "+" key on your keyboard and try moving the piece after you have zoomed in to it.
