How to use a Magewell SDI to USB capture device with Adobe Premiere Pro

I currently teach a TV Production class and I am looking at how to bring video for a JVC 4K camera into Adobe Premiere Pro via a Magewell SDI to USB capture device? The Magewell capture card shows up in the capture drop down menu, but once the capture screen comes up Premiere states "Device Offline". Please advise on what I am missing.

I'm skeptical you really need that device for getting the video in. I'm not aware of any 4K camera that doesn't record to solid state media, in which case you'd copy the full card to the internal Media drive using a card reader.

In the Capture window, click on the Settings tab and set the Device Control to None.

It states device offline. I have multiple cameras feeding into a video switcher with SDI out. The setup is for a High School News production.

Premiere Pro is not meant for that scenario. Use something like a Ninja from Atomos or HyperDeck Studio from Blackmagic for recording. Then transfer that recording to the Media drive of your edit system afterwards.
