Question

I feel lost with the new update with regards to Sequences - Question

Hi! I have a video file which is 1280x720 and I want to export it (with all the requisite scaling/cropping/etc) in 1080X1920. I do not want the video to be framed within the size of 1080X1920, but rather want the clip to remain its size and do all the machinations to make it fit (with bg and other things) in the 1080x1920 frame. I used to just use a new sequence with custom settings to do this, but now that changes the size of the clip I am using.

I have no clue how to address this - the workaround has been ludicrous where I am upscaling the now downscaled clip and thus losing quality.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated!

Rob

    @RobCWORK,

    The screenshots Ann asks for would be helpful.

    With no scaling, a 1280x720 added to a 1080x1920 looks like this:

    The 720 pixel high original fits into the 1920 high new sequence; the 1280 original width is wider that the 1080 wide new sequence.

    @Ann Bens,

    I am not getting the clip mismatch warning, and I have “show clip mismatch warning” set in preferences.

    AFAIK setting up sequences have not changed.

    Please post screenshots of the issue and how you want it to look.

    Perhaps I’m crazy, but I feel like Premiere now treats sequences different every time I open a new project. I thought I had the solution - but it is not working. This is endlessly frustrating and finding answers (while possibly simple) is very hard with search!

    @RobCWORK,

    Ann’s method will allow you to get your 1280x720 clip into a 1080x1920 sequence without changing the sequence settings.

    In Edit → Preferences -> Media, make sure you have Default Media Scaling set to none.

    I think this works the same way it has recently.

    When dropping the file in a new custom sequence the program will ask if you want to change the settings: answer no > keep settings

    I have tried this, and sometimes it doesn’t work. My video clip (even after doing this) is scaled down to fit within the borders. If there is some setting on the program that possibly I have screwed up, or there is any further guidance you could provide, I would appreciate it. This is not fun.
