Question

I've tried everything and Premiere Pro is still crashing

I'm making a 30 minute film, so I purchased premiere pro to get this project done somewhat professionally. I had absolutely no problems with it at first, but the longer the film got, the more often it would freeze or shut down. It wasn't that bad though, until I started adding open captions. Half-way through adding the captions Premiere Pro started crashing every ten minutes with the message "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Premiere Pro to shut down". I tried everything; deleting cache files, resetting my preference settings, turning off my GPU, etc. Eventually I chatted with costumer support and they told me my RAM was too low (I was working with 8GB RAM) and I thought that made sense because I saw Premiere Pro was using about 6GB RAM. So I updated my Mac OS to 16 GB RAM which wasn't easy, but now I'm still having the same issues. What else can I do? I even tried changing some of the fonts to Adobe Clean UX and then it crashed even quicker. It always seems to happen when I add the "In"- time.

I'm trying to consolidate and transcode the clips in the Project Manager right now, because someone told me the many different formats of the clips may be the issue, but when I try that, it just freezes on "Analyzing Project".

Please help me, I was trying to make a deadline which I've already missed and now I'm stressing out trying to still get it done as soon as possible. I can tell you I'll avoid using this program again after finishing this project.

I would go back to help and ask for the video queue specialists. Captions can have a variety of issues, but I don't believe that captions as such should be crashing your system. So I would look for a more general problem.

What specific dot version of PR? And Mac OS?

How are you handling the captions? A single open caption stream that you created in PR? Or imported a caption file?

I would go back and create a new test project. Bring in only one type of asset and make a sequence from it. Create a new Caption stream (or import your caption file if that is what you are using). Just make sure that is working.

You can also try to create a new sequence, and import you whole project into that. Sometimes that will fix problems.
