Question

Ideal/Max RAM for Premiere Pro on a Mac? 64GB, 96GB?

Hi,

I can't seem to find any definitive answers on this.

What is the most amount of RAM that Premiere Pro CC 2018 can realistically use on a Mac?

I'm currently using 32GB, but am looking at upgrade to 96GB. But first, I'd like to make sure
that Premiere Pro, AME & After Effects will be able to use all that RAM, or if I'm better off

upgrading to 64GB.

I'd love to see any documents or speed-tests that I may have missed.

Thanks in advance.

Wayne

Premiere and After Effects will use all the RAM you throw at them, but only if it's actually needed. If you're working with smaller frame sizes then you won't need so much RAM. If you're working with really long Ae comps and your previews are disappearing before your entire timeline is cached, then sure, more RAM is going to help. Are you currently running low on available RAM? What kind of media are you working with?

    Hi David,

    Thanks for the reply.

I'm editing a long-form documentary with a bajillion hours of 4K Sony & RED footage.

I'm upgrading from 32GB to 96GB soon. Will post my experiences.
