Imported footage is downscaled automatically

I am new to Premiere Pro having switched over from Vegas and this is simply confusing me to no end.

I have set up a custom sequence for 1080p resolution. I go and import various clips I would like to use, but when the clips are imported, and I right click on them and click on properties it tells me these clips are 1280x720, despite that when I play the clip in a media player, it tells me it's 1080p.

So why is there seemingly an automatic downscale being done by PP? When I add the video onto the timeline it tells me that the clip does not match the sequence's settings.

No clue why it does this or what I am doing wrong. Please help!

I have found what the issue was. I was confident in the files resolution, but it seemed that some of the files had a different resolution, which is why I was getting inconsistencies as some files were not flagging up the prompts and SV automatically scales it to your initial settings.

I know this is an old post and I will probably find my answer but your question is valid. It's 2024 and I have 4k footage that I was pretty sure was not playing back in 4k so I opened debuging mode in PP and view the AdobePlayer Main stats and its says it is a 4k render with a current downsample factor of 1 and then as soon as you hit play it drops to 1080 and lists the downsample factor as 2. At first I thought it was becasue my computer monitor is only 1080p so I started a fresh project and imported a video from a 1080p camera and the same thing. It shows as 1080 but you hit play and it trapps all the way down to 560 with a current downsample factor of 2.

I'm sure I am missing something doesn't make sense.

Have you checked the Program monitor's Playback settings? I'm pretty confident that those are not set for High Q playback ... and if you have those set to lower Q, it will downscale during playback as the setting is set to do.

Please post screenshot of clip analyze in MediaInfo windows in treeview here on forum.

I don't think PP is capable of actually changing the resolution of media files. My first guess is that your media player is reporting incorrectly. You might be seeing the Display resolution, rather than the Media resolution.

How about making a screengrab of your Sequence settings dialog and one of the Properties panel for a clip. Drag/drop them on your reply box.
