Importing Character Animator puppet and audio--audio distorted

Trying out Character Animator. I imported the character into Premiere Pro and the animation works fine, but the audio track that was clear in Character Animator sounds distorted in Premiere Pro.

This audio track also shows in RED on the timeline.

Did I export something wrong? Not sure if this is an issue in my export or a problem with settings in Premiere.

You might want to try rendering your timeline. Click on the timeline and press Return.

Thanks, but I tried that and it didn't work. The audio sounds fine when I play it in the source window on the upper left. Whether I drag the clip directly into the timeline or drag it from the source window the audio distorts when played from the timeline.
