Importing Missing Footage Error

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this but importing footage in to projects sometimes only brings in the Audio track and no Video. The files play back normally with QT player and every other video player but importing creates this error. Then trying to relink the media it deletes the clip form Premiere pro all together. It is unbelievably infuriating and unacceptable. The only work around that sometimes works is having to move ALL the original source files to a new folder, start a new project, reimport and then drag it back over, and that only works sometimes. If someone else has a solution please let me know. Ive lost too much time trying to figure this out.

    Here's how to fix it:

    1) find the files that it claims are offline on your harddrive. Press Command + I to get info (or for batching multiple files, hold down CTRL, right click on them and, while holding down CTRL, choose "Get Summary Info").

    2) once in the "Get Info" window, go down to "Open With" and choose anything else besides Quicktime... Premiere is a good choice.

    3) then close that window

    4) now when you go back to relink your files in Premiere, there should be no problem.

*Be sure to do this is in fairly small batches, 20/30 or less. I tried doing it on entire folder contents at once and it did not work.

I've tried importing natively, media browser, drag and drop. The footage varies but generally its a Sony A7s/r MP4 source. Never had a problem till the newest update.

Is your media stored on external drives or the local internal? If external, what is the connection protocol and speed of the drive?

Are you importing natively or through Media Browser?

We're going to need more info: PC specs, media specs, etc
