Importing video freezes Premiere Pro

If I try to drag and drop, or file -> import video footage of a folder, it would freeze my entire premiere pro.

I've tried both CC 2018 and CC 2019.

I've tried running as an administrator.

I tried starting new projects.

I tried saving the projects in different parts of my C:\.

I've tried moving my footage from my micro SD card in D:\ into C:\.

I've tried contacting the chat support, but no luck! hah!

Any ideas? It started not working ever since CC 2019.

I figured it out! It was a corrupted video file in the folder I'm importing!  One corrupted video file freezes the entire premiere pro.  Would be nice if Premiere Pro could catch those corrupted files and give a prompt if you want to skip that file..

Not sure if there is a better way to check what is corrupted before an import!

1. Use Windows Explorer to copy the full media card to an internal hard drive dedicated to camera media.  Do not delete, rename or move any of those files.

2. Use the Media Browser in Premiere Pro to navigate to the folder of media you just copied, and Import from there.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the response. I've tried that.  I never adjust the folder structure or file name, only within premiere pro would I do that kind of edit.  I've also tried using the mdeia browser in premiere pro to import from there.  And it still freeze.  Tested it on multiple drives.

Never put footage on C. C is for OS and program and nothing else.

Make sure you copy the entire card to hdd first.

Then ingest via Media Browser.

What kind of footage are we talking about?

and what are your system specs?

Hi Ann,

Thanks for your quick response!

I never put it on C:\.  I've only did it to test if it can work. I've got my footage both on an external harddrive and my extended hard drive space which is my microSD card slot on my Microsoft Surface Pro 4 128GB / 4GB DDR laptop.

I've also tried ingesting via Media Browser too.

The footage I'm using is from an EOS M100 camera as formatted .mp4/ 23.98 fps.  I am able to gather single footage, but when I gather the folder it crashes.

I've also tried the AdobeCreativeCloudCleanerTool.exe to wipe my premiere pro and reinstall.

Make sure your cache folder is not located on C: as well
