Incredible amount of "retrieving" and "substitution recursion" errors after update on Windows.
Technical Details:
OS: Windows 11 Pro v. 22H2
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-code 3.40 GHz
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT (with latest drivers)
RAM: 64GB DDR4
Premiere Version: 23.5 and 23.4
BRAW version: 3.2
The Problem:
Ever since I updated to 23.5 last week, I've been getting an incredible amount of "error retrieving frames" and "frame substitution recursion error" messages, as you can see in the attached picture:

It happens with all sorts of source codecs and containers, whether it's an h.264 .MP4, or a ProRes .MOV, a Blackmagic .braw, or even some .png files. Weirdly enough, we have all the same software versions installed on a Mac Studio here in the office, and there are no errors in the Mac for the same files/projects. Unfortunately, that's not my workstation so I can't use it to edit.
Here is what I already tried:
- Converting files to different codecs/containers
- Downgraded to 23.4 and 23.3
- Cleared Cache
- Restarted the computer multiple times
- Reinstalled Premiere
- Reinstalled GPU drivers
- Downgraded Braw to 2.7 (last release that worked for me without issues)
- Using CPU acceleration instead of GPU
Cry for help:
What else could I try in order to fix this issue? It has been slowing down my workflow considerably.
Thank you all in advance.
