Question

individually exported clips have wrong first frame/thumbnail

premiere and media encoder apps both both fully updated.

I typically export my full sequence and also each individual clip using in/out points. done this many times but for some odd reason this time the clips are saving with the very first frame (and subsequently the thumbnail) is from the previous clip. I've double checked that the in/out points are exact and cleared the media cache. please help if you know how to fix or let me know if I can provide more info,

    Hi krodgerscreative,

Welcome to the community! Is the first frame (and thumbnail) of your exported media from a different clip placed just before the In point, or is it from the same source clip? Also, have you set any poster frame for the clip?

    Thanks,
    Sumeet

thanks Sumeet. it was from the previous clip right before the in point of each clip. so clip 2 started with the end of clip 1, clip 3 started with the end of clip 2, etc.

I ended up fixing it - the issue was that my sequence settings were to 59.94 and the export was 60. I think this is because iPhone says ‘60’ frame rate but really it shoots at a variable frame rate, often 59.94 highest. I changed the sequence settings to 60 and it fixed it. I guess it was substituting that missing frame with the previous clip.

In the future I’ve heard I should be using handbrake to make all clips truly 60p before importing to premiere, is this true? any tips? I am worried that changing to 60p sequence will mess up the variable frame clip somehow if I do it in premiere. Still learning all this. I edit iPhone clips in premiere because editing them on your phone actually reduces quality I’ve learned.

I had to look up what a poster frame is, thanks for that lesson also.
