Question

Inserting clips and having Markers adjust

1) Using Windows 11 PC with a project with over 300 clips already placed that include Segment and Comment markers in the timeline.  Need to insert and new clip in the middle.  When I use Track select forward tool it moves the clips but not the markers creating a nightmare to adjust the markers to match the clips.

Can anyone share a workflow they use to overcome this issue

2) When moving a clip and its segment marker to another location in the timeline> Curretn process is:
Copy the source video
Place the CTI at the destination
Press Shift Alt V and source clip appears with the Marker and pushes everything to the right.

However, when I select the original clip and delete it and then select ripple delete, the original segment market still remains.

Any workflow suggestions are greatly appreciated

You have to think of where the data is 'stored' ... sequence markers are sequence data, not clip data. They stay in place on a sequence.

Clip markers are clip data, not sequence data. They stay with the clip.

Which is why MyerPj and Paul's comments are so necessary to understand.

Everyone's mileage always varies ...

Thank you for encouraging me to understand a core concept.

Difference between Comment and Chapter markers.

Is there any difference in the functions of these two markers.  For example, what functions does a Chapter marker have that a Comment Marker does not?

I already know the differences in the use cases, as summarized below. However., My question is: what is the difference in the function.  I know that neither of these supports copy and paste and, therefore, I am using Segmentation markers which does support this feature when the settings are set for this.

If we place Chapter Markers as a Timeline Marker or Clip Marker and then export to QuickTime, the Premiere Pro Chapter Markers will be included as QuickTime Chapter Markers in the resulting movie file.

QuickTime Chapter Markers will show in QuickTime Player or any other application that sees QuickTime Chapter Markers.

  1. Instead of using the Track Select Forward Tool, you can load the clip into the Source Monitor, set your in/out points, and use Sequence > Insert. This will insert the clip at the playhead position while pushing down any following clips and sequence markers. To ensure sequence markers adjust properly, make sure Markers > Ripple Sequence Markers is enabled.
  2. There isn't a single command to delete both a clip and the sequence marker above it at the same time. You will need to delete the clip and then remove the marker separately. However, as @MyerPj suggested, if you need markers to move with specific clips, using Clip Markers instead of Sequence Markers might be a more effective approach.

Paul:

Thank you for your response.  To confirm, you are saying that deleting an existing clip together with its segment marker is not a supported feature.  They have to be deleted as two separate actions, correct?

Also, can you confirm that exporting Clip markers is not a supported feature as well.  I am able to export Comment, Chapter, and Segment makers and I use this as a valuable way to determine where to make edits in the project.

Off the top of my head I'd say you need clip markers and not sequence markers. To create a clip marker make sure the clip is selected in the timeline before you add the marker. Or you can using the Source monitor to watch the clip and make clip marker.

MyerPj: Thanks for your response.  However, the project already has 300 clips added to the timeline, and over 70 of those have Segment Markers.  I am trying to move those existing clips with their segment markers in the timeline.

Also, I have not been able to export all of the clip markers in the timelines successfully. It seems that this is not a supported feature in Premier Pro.  Exporting markers is an important tool as you can view the segments at a glance to decide where edits can be made in a project.

On the MARKERS menu at the bottom you can turn on the Pref for Ripple Sequence Markers and Copy Paste  Includes Sequence Markers. That may solve your issue.
