Iphone Footage does not look good in Premiere

I've tried all the workarounds to make my Iphone footage look right in Premiere, but nothing works. Everything still looks off even after adjusting lumetri color, interpreting the footage, etc. This has been a problem with Premiere for years and I'm so shocked they haven't fixed it yet. Usually I'm editing footage shot on my camera but I have a client who requested me shoot with my Iphone for a more "amateur" look. Well. It sure looks amateur after attempting to edit in Premiere. Premiere is usually my go to video editing software and it's frustrating I can't simply pull and edit my footage from my phone without it looking like complete garbage.

They've completely rebuilt the color management, including a lot more user settable options. And apparently you didn't figure out you needed to learn the new system.

Go to the Color Workspace, Lumetri panel, Settings tab ... not where you make color corrections, the tab that now has all Premiere's many color management settings.

Then start reading the things Ann linked to. You can do all kinds of things now, your choice, it's a vastly better system than the limited controls we once had.

But you are now responsible to set up what you want to get.

Thanks R Neil Haugen. I've seen your similar comments on all of the threads here about this same topic. The point I'm trying to make is that Premiere pro is the industry standard software for video editing, yet users have to jump through 10000 hoops to be able to edit iphone footage. I'll just stick with editing the iphone footage in imovie where I can simply upload and edit without having to spend a bunch of time tweaking settings for it to look okay (at best). It just seems like something Adobe could make much more simple and user friendly. In doing so, they'd probably also gain many users who only shoot with their phones. Seems like a win-win to make this process more user friendly.

So you won't take five minutes to set up your color management? That's all it takes, and it's sticky.

How is this program supposed to know if you want to work in SDR/Rec.709 or HLG? As you might have HLG clips but need SDR for one use, then want to do HDR for another. How's the program supposed to guess this for you?

For Mac users especially, which viewer gamma do you want to use? That's a poison pill issue, there's potential problems with all options, so you as the chooser need to choose ... wisely. And your choice will not be the same as someone else.

So again, how's the app supposed to choose for you?
