Question

Is "Auto Tone Map Media" before or after Lumetri Color Processing?

I wonder if the Auto Tone Mapping (e.g. the color space transform from SLog3/S-Gamut3.Cine to Rec709 with tone mapping) before or after the Lumetri Color Controls?

I should be after the lumetri controls. Can anyvody confirm this?

Thanks

Frank

I asked this pipeline order question at 2023 NAB of a rather high-end super, who thought through things, then said the general pipeline as of that time was Input LUTs, conversion to 32bit float mathematically, Lumetri, then tonemapping applied to the outputs to screen viewing gamma to the display (separate from) and processing output for exports.

As the tonemapping was based on taking the image signal up to that point into the display and/or output processes, not the input ones. But that Lumetri worked on the post-Input LUT data, which if no Input LUT is applied, is the basic "original" image data.

So that would mean, if accurate, that the tonemapping is post Lumetri. But that would be for Pr 23.x, and probably 24.x.

As Shebbe rightly notes, everything is changing with the 25.x release coming up the 14th of October probably ... first day of Adobe MAX. So ... there are questions that Shebbe and Hector and I have been asking in the public beta forum, and we're not quite yet sure on everything.

From my testing, I can't quite tell what the precise pipeline is. So ... it would be nice to get further clarification.

@Alexis Van Hurkman  would be the person that could, if chosen, give is the precise order specifics.

Understand, that the total percentage of those of us for whom the precise order matters, is rather ... tiny, sadly to say. But we need to know! Yep.

Everyone's mileage always varies ...

All colormanagement processing happens before clip effects.

Currently in beta there is a new color management system being developed but it's still very rough unfortunately. But this will allow for working in log in the timeline with tone mapping and conversion to display space as post process. They will use ACEScct for this which will be the only option for now...
I encourage you to check it out but really don't recommend using it at the moment because there are still big issues with it.
