Question

Is there a good way to calculate how long rendering proxies will take?

I have roughly 40tb, ~160 hours of footage for a project I'm working on. I plan on using Premiere to transcode prores proxies. If I know how much footage I have and its codec and my computer specs, is there a way to know how many hours it will take to transcode before I start? My rough guess is it will take a week straight.

Hi rhelton,

Good Q. There should be, huh! Computer systems have various capabilities and you have not told us about your computer at all, so we'd be guessing. Like you! 🙂

Are you going to go on vacation as your proxies get generated? If not, don't wait around, you can create proxies in the background as you edit if you ingest via Media Browser and set that all up. It's very handy to put in action. That is, if you don't need a vacation. 🙂

Thanks,
Kevin
