Is there a way to get Premiere to auto transcribe a speaker, and then also translate?
Prelude:
I'm quite new to the transcribe/captions tools. So I guess, before I get to my question, can anyone recommend a comprehensive tutorial on how they work/ all their capabilities etc so that I can use these tools properly and get the most out of them?
My question/current use case:
I've got video of a French speaker. I don't speak french. I'd like to turn their French into English subtitles. At present, all I know to do is to
1. have premiere transcribe their spoken French to written French
2. create captions from that
3. meticulously copy/paste the french, piece by piece (in 1-2 sentence chunks) into ChatGPT to harness its insanely accurate translation capabilities (I think its the best translator in the world right now).
4. Once ChatGPT give me a translation, I go back into captions, delete the french, and paste in the English
As you can imagine this is incredibly time consuming for long form clips, and quite frankly I dont even know what I'm doing, so getting the right English to show up at the right parts of spoken French is somewhat of a mystery to me. I understand in theory that captions are assigned to specific timestamps, but I'm not sure how to properly utilize this, I am just kind of stumbling around trying different things to see what works by guess and check.
Hoping someone can provide some guidance. Thanks to all the helpful people on here for what you do to help the rest of us!
