Issue using time remapping and motion effects on the same clip

Hi all

I'm new to premiere and editing at i've run into a problem i can't seem to get around so i'm here for help.

A bit of background to my issue.

I have a timelapse clip that is is about 45 seconds and i want to speed it up using the time remapping feature so that the clip reduces to about 3-5 secs so everything is moving really fast. At the same time i want to pan the clip from left to right using the position function in the motion effects. I have increased the scale so the clip is zoomed in enough to accomadate the pan.

I started by selecting the clip and applying time remapping so i reduced the clip length to the size that i want. Then i added keyframes on the position motion effect at the start and end of the clip (from 1147 to finish at 772). When i click play the clip plays at the speed i want but no pan. I remove the keyframes and try again multiple times without success. Weirdly though every time i would play the clip with keyframes i can see the postion x axis number changing from 1147 (start frame) to 772 (end frame) as if it should be panning across the image but i'm getting a still frame.

i decided to reverse the process and delete the clip altogether and start by adding the motion effect keyframes first. This time i'm getting the pan effect i wanted but i can no longer reduce the clip from 45 seconds to 5 using time remapping.

What am i doing wrong? How do i get both the motion effect and time remapping to work on one clip?

sorry if this has been discussed on a previous thread, i was unable to find it

Correct answer Peru Bob

You need to put the clip in its own sequence and apply the time remapping.  Then put that sequence on the timeline of the main sequence and add the motion keyframes.
