Keyboard Shortcuts and Timeline Controls Not Responding in Premiere Pro

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue in Adobe Premiere Pro where keyboard shortcuts and basic timeline controls like cut, trim, ripple delete, and play or pause sometimes stop working. Mouse actions still work, but certain keys do nothing.

I’ve already checked the keyboard shortcut settings, confirmed I’m using the correct keyboard layout in Windows, reset Premiere Pro preferences, and made sure the correct panel is active.

Is there a reliable way in Premiere Pro to determine whether this is a software or shortcut configuration problem versus a keyboard input issue? Any common causes or troubleshooting steps would be helpful.

First, I hope you've trashed the cache files ... if not, hold down Shift on launch, select delete cache files, and see if that fixes the problems.

Past that, I had that same behavior when the OneDrive on my then-new computer took over all user document folders, and for some reason didn't allow the Adobe apps to write to those folders. It took three days to finally eradicate OneDrive from that computer so my preferences, shortcut keys, 9 custom workspaces and presets all simply worked again.

So check the permissions and control of the folders that preferences and presets et al are parked in.
